Better Auto insurance

n its first six months, the Consumer Insurance Board has signed up nearly 4,000 members in the Chicago area. The group's goal, says Quinn, is simple: "better insurance protection, whether it is auto, life, or health--for lower prices."
Last spring Chicago's city clerk agreed to the Citizen's Insurance Board's request to include a letter by Ralph Nader on excessive auto-insurance rates in all vehicle-registration renewal notices. Within months, thousands joined the group. Teamsters Local 710 has promised to include Consumer Insurance Board information in its mailings. And Quinn says the Cook County clerk will include a Consumer Insurance Board letter in its bulk mail.

Insurance Auto Auctions Inc. (NASDAQ: IAAI), the leading provider of automotive salvage services in the United States, today reported that net sales for the quarter ended Dec. 31, 1996 were $64.4 million.
Mr. Alampi, president and CEO said, "Linda Larrabee, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer and I have completed our first six months with Insurance Auto Auctions. Both of us have been able to get familiar with the Company's operations, its strengths and its weaknesses. We evaluated various agreements that the company made in the past in relation to our current focus and strategic plans. As a result of these evaluations, we decided to recognize, as a special charge, the expense related to the termination of pre-existing agreements that no longer have value to our current strategy.
"We also entered into an agreement with Bradley S. Scott, former Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board that terminates his employment agreement with the Company and provides that he will serve as an outside Director and Chairman of the Board. We will complete the centralization of our corporate groups at our corporate headquarters in Illinois by mid-summer, and we negotiated a buyout of a long-term lease for property in Woodland Hills, California. The net of these terms recognized as special charges is $1,395,000. Now, we are ready to focus on implementing our strategic plans."

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), lawyers in the legal services industry earned an average salary of $136,540 in 2009 (www.bls.gov). Payscale.com also claims that attorneys in the insurance industry made between $58,167 and $100,237, as of August 2010.
Many different types of insurance litigation attorneys perform various tasks on specific cases. For example, insurance subrogation lawyers deal with things such as workers' compensation, group health and uninsured motorist lawsuits. Insurance defense lawyers handle cases regarding car accidents, asbestosis claims and wrongful deaths. Insurance coverage litigation attorneys cover both defense and prosecution cases having to do with commercial risk policies, insurance contracts and environmental coverage.

Geico Auto Insurance

Founded in 1935, Geico began as the brainchild of Leo and Lillian Goodwin. After ten years of Leo’s working for USAA, an insurance company specializing in insuring military personnel, the married couple came up with the idea of selling insurance to government employees and the families of government employees.
The USAA was dominated by military personnel and it was very difficult for civilian employees to win promotions and raises within the company so Goodwin’s employers gave him no other option but to found his own company if he wanted to keep his upwards momentum going.
Interestingly, GEICO actually stands for Government Employees Insurance Co. even though Geico Car Insurance has never held any official government affiliation beyond selling to government employees.
Since 1973, GEICO Car Insurance has been selling to the general public, and after a few financial missteps in the mid 70′s recession, leading to a $126 million loss, the company eventually recovered and became a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway and has become the US’s third largest direct writer of private passenger car insurance.
Currently the company can be found headquartered at their offices at 5260 Western Avenue in Chevy Chase, Md 20815.

Why choose Geico

- GEICO started out insuring only government employees (Government Employees Insurance Company) so they respect that relationship by giving them a discount. Also, statistics show that the military and government employees drive the safest.

- Younger drivers drive worse. You didn’t know?

-  Studies (I don’t know which ones, but this is what they told me) show that people with education that continue past the high-school level drive more safely than others.

-  People who have clean driving histories for an extended period of time have apparently learned to drive safely. That or they are very lucky.

AllState reviews

Allstate has taken some serious heat in the following years for going from "good hands to boxing gloves" with its policy changes and quality of service. Despite this, it still maintains a large and loyal following. While it might not be the best auto insurance company, it's certainly nowhere near the worst. Perhaps by reevaluating its customer service and taking a long hard look at its resolution and repair processes, Allstate will once again rise to the top. For now, however, better car insurance providers are available, including top-rated GEICO, Progressive and eSurance.

StateFarm Benefits

State Farm offers car insurance policyholders the clearest description of its comparatively-generous benefits. Multiple-vehicle and multiple-policies will result in a discount. As will drivers with established safe driving records. Good students that maintain a "B" average, too, are eligible for a discount. Also, vehicles with safety features like anti-theft devices and other safety features are eligible for a discount.
Like Progressive and a handful of other auto insurance agencies, State Farm offers discounts for car insurance premiums paid in full or paid automatically each month electronically.

State Farm policy

Though many car insurance companies run the risk of stretching themselves too thin with expanded insurance protection products for life, home, fire and other insurance needs, State Farm Insurance manages to strike a favorable, even enviable balance between the policyholder and the shareholder. What's more, State Farm, with its tens of thousands of agents and representatives nationwide and straightforward, informative website, ensures that drivers get the right amount of insurance, as opposed to more or worse, less than what is adequate.

Geico

GEICO has emerged as one of the premiere car insurance companies in recent years--and for good reason. Offering its customers upfront savings on auto insurance policies, providing streamlined claims reporting and tracking and emphasizing personable and responsive customer service, all while facilitating quick repairs to get motorists back in their cars and on the road. Combine this with its bounteous offering of discounts, policy flexibility and potential for multiple policies such as home, life, boat and others and you have a one-stop-shop for auto insurance--as well as other insurance--needs that is as convenient and timely as a drive-thru window.

Geico Customer Service & Claims Timeliness

Getting you and your vehicle off the road and into the mechanic or appropriate technician is only half the battle. Seeing that claims are processed and repairs completed in a timely and efficient matter is another matter altogether. Fortunately, this is where GEICO stands out, giving its policyholders a variety of methods for reporting and tracking claims, while mediating between various auto insurance companies if necessary and facilitating timely car repairs. Claims can be reported and tracked entirely online, freeing up motorists to get on with day-to-day responsibilities as opposed to spending a considerable amount of time filtering through "phone trees" to speak to a claims adjuster or agent. Although, for additional convenience, policy information and claims information can still be accessed by phone, with the assurance of a fast connection to the appropriate party.
GEICO's reputation for its customer service is largely what has proven to be the true catalyst for its retention and policyholder satisfaction, not its entertaining, popular commercials or its slight savings. This is evident in its retention rate, which ranks among the best in the auto insurance industry.

Geico Policy Flexibility

GEICO is incredibly flexible with its policy attributes, crafting policies that suit the needs and budgets of its policyholders, while extending its streamlined business-model savings to the customer. Whether you are looking to insure multiple vehicles or drivers, increase or decrease deductibles on policies, reduce coverage to Liability-Only or manage the payment cycle or structure, GEICO allows its policyholders an unprecedented freedom to do so. Best of all, this can all be done online or over the phone with a dedicated GEICO insurance agent, which can be an added benefit for those living in rural areas.

Geico reviews

With the wave of successful ad campaigns GEICO has launched in the last decade, it might seem that GEICO, our TopTenREVIEWS Gold Award winner, is relatively new to the auto insurance market. Not so. GEICO, which began in the District of Columbia as the Government Employees Insurance Company, has been an auto insurance provider for more than 70 years and has made its services available in all 50 states.
GEICO was among the first to develop a non-agent model for customer service, claims filing and policy inquiries, making these available through phone and Internet and allowing GEICO to pass savings on to its customers. In addition to these savings-oriented operational practices that provide new policyholders with substantial discounts, GEICO has earned and maintained the loyalty of its customers through its professional, helpful customer service representatives, efficient claims process and continued dedication to getting its policyholders off the road and back on again as quickly as possible.

Auto insurance in US

No matter where you live, auto insurance is an important part of life. But depending on where you live, the auto insurance regulations could be extremely different than those in a neighboring state. Consumers searching for auto insurance, or those considering moving to another state, need to understand how auto insurance guidelines can vary from state to state. In fact, the costs associated with meeting state auto insurance laws could affect the types of Maine auto loans you apply for. Be sure to do extensive research and receive competitive quotes before settling on any auto loan or insurance policy.

Auto-Insurance Bill Should Get Green Light

But the accident coverage available to most Americans today provides none of these critical elements. Operating on a tort-liability basis, it consumes vast amounts of time and resources through litigation that seeks to fix blame, while victims struggle with medical bills and the impact of lost income.
The lure of fat payoffs from insurance companies or businesses causes rampant auto-insurance fraud, both organized and individual, tied to exaggerated or even fictitious injury claims.
The idea that insurance premiums for bodily-injury coverage go mostly to compensate victims for medical expenses and lost wages is itself a form of fiction. Only 14.8 percent of such payments are disbursed for that purpose. The outlay for attorneys' fees is nearly twice as high-28.4 percent. And fraudulent and excessive claims, at 12.6 percent, come close to matching the economic-loss outlays.
After reviewing the current system, the Joint Economic Committee of Congress said it "results in the worst possible combination: high costs and low benefits."
Fortunately, the means for change is at hand. It is the bipartisan Auto Choice Reform Act This eminently sensible measure would deal with the major shortcomings of the present system and reduce annual premium costs an average of 27.5 percent for commercial and 22.8 percent for noncommercial vehicles. Savings would average $184 per year per vehicle and total $193 billion over five years, the committee estimates.
Under the act, vehicle owners could continue with coverage similar to what they presently have or purchase a new type of policy known as personal protection insurance
The holder of a PPI policy could neither sue nor be sued for damages based on claims of pain and suffering, the principal force driving the auto tort litigation that is pushing up premiums. States could exempt themselves from the PPI system.
The vast majority of the business community is solidly behind the reform movement. Lawrence B. Kraus, president of the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform, says, "It's time to tackle the problems of lawsuit abuse and move forward with a sensible auto-choice law that allows consumers to choose and to benefit from lower premiums.

There is no justification for continuing to impose a failed, excessively costly system on consumers when a workable, equitable, and economical alternative can be put in place quickly Congress should expedite passage of the Auto Choice Reform Act.

AutoInsurance.com Launches as a Public Auto Insurance Rating Engine

Through public rate filings, AutoInsurance.comgives consumers instant access to quotes from of a large variety of leading insurers, empowering consumers with an efficient rate comparison tool. Cesar Diaz, founder and veteran insurance professional said, "This is a customer-focused product giving great value to consumers across our nation by empowering them with the same tool that agents use to compare quotes across multiple carriers."
As represented in their logo with a revving speedometer needle, AutoInsurance.com promises United States consumers free, unbiased auto insurance quote comparisons delivered with speed. A 2009 survey conducted by comScore reported that two-thirds of auto insurance shoppers went online for rate quotes. Nationwide Insurance, Allied Insurance Responding to Severe Storms

Nationwide Insurance and Allied Insurance claim representatives and agents are prepared to assist customers affected by the severe storms that recently swept through the Midwest and continued into the Mid Atlantic regions. Procedures are in place providing quick response to customers needs. Policyholders with storm damage should call the Nationwide and Allied Insurance claims hotline at 800-421-3535.
Summer severe weather can produce tornadoes, thunderstorms, strong winds and floods. Nationwide and Allied Insurance offer the following safety tips to be prepared for severe weather:
Thunderstorms - If you can hear thunder, lightning is a danger. Take shelter if skies look threatening. Stay indoors, away from doors and windows. Avoid taking a shower or bath, and using the telephone. Because lightening can travel through electrical lines, turn off or unplug all electrical appliances.
Tornadoes - Tornadoes are often accompanied by heavy rain, thunder, lightning or hail. In threatening weather, listen for authorized watches and warnings. If a tornado warning alarm sounds, take cover in a basement or first-floor, interior room without windows. Never stay inside a mobile home or take shelter beneath one; go to the nearest shelter or take cover in a ditch ordepression in the ground away from the home.
Floods - Floodwaters are extremely powerful. Just two feet of water can sweep away a car and as little as six inches can cause unstable footing. Remember that flood conditions change rapidly and water can be much deeper than it appears. If your home floods, turn off utilities and keep them off until authorities say it's safe to turn them on. Don't pump water out of your basement until floodwater recedes. Avoid flood-weakened structures and be aware that floodwaters can be contaminated.
A disaster kit is essential in severe weather or an emergency. Here are some basic items that should be kept together in a safe, waterproof and easy-to-access area:

Get Cheap Car Insurance Premiums and Rates Right Now

-  Ask for discounts
You never know. Most of us have heard of the multi policy discount or the 'I don't drive a lot' discount, but there are usually many more. If you are a Veteran you may get a discount or even a member of different groups can sometimes get a little extra discount. Ask. It won't hurt and you might just qualify for one of these hidden gems.
-  Keep your record clean.
Don't get tickets, plain and simple. If you already have some, start now to get the record cleaned up. It can save you anywhere between 15%-25%. That's huge and worth following the law.
- How much do you want to spend if you get into an accident?
You have to have a certain amount of coverage that will cover the other person if you get into a wreck, but you can lower your own coverage if you want, especially if you own the car outright. But be careful. You could end up paying big bucks out of pocket if you are under insured. A good rule of thumb is that is your car is pretty old you may what to take the chance.
- Get anti-theft devices
These things like Lo-Jack and other security systems will definitely give you a discount with your insurer, maybe even as much as 20%. It's worth looking into. Not to mention the fact that your car won't get ripped off and hike up your rates. Win-Win.
Think about implementing a few of these things. You won't be sorry and if you did just two of these things I think it's safe to say you would save some kind of money.

Geico Auto Insurance

Geico is an auto insurance provider in the United States. Geico has been around for quite some now, and have created a huge customer base, making Geico one of the largest passenger car insurers in the country. On Geico.com visitors can enter some personal information and will be presented with rates, also known as premiums. The user can then select their level of coverage based on their budget and needs. However, the website only provides you with auto insurance quotes from Gieco, no other providers.
When the Internet exploded, almost a decade ago, many companies began offering their services online. Companies like Geico could now provide quotes to their customers in just minutes, avoiding many costs, that now get passed on to the driver. Driving to School for the First Time? GEICO Advises: 'Don't Drive Distracted'

Is your teen driving to school for the very first time this year? As a parent you probably feel proud, relieved and a little concerned. Parents are learning that the first six months of unsupervised driving are the most dangerous for their new teen drivers.
So what is the best advice parents can give their teens as they give them the keys to the car and watch them head out the door?
"Don't drive distracted," advises GEICO's Janice Minshall, assistant vice president of communications. "That's the best message parents can give to new drivers. It's vital that teen drivers are highly focused driving to school in busy traffic. Highway safety experts know that young drivers don't have the experience to cope with a lot of distractions when they're first starting out." (http://www.geico.com/pdf/autosafety/DTD_sheet.pdf).
Which is why GEICO has strongly supported graduated drivers licensing (GDL) laws to phase in expanded driving privileges for new drivers during their first 12 to 18 months of unsupervised driving. GDL laws prohibit critical distractions and give new drivers more time to focus on their driving and learn how to handle unexpected driving situations.
But on day one, GEICO recommends teens follow these guidelines to help them get to school and avoid distractions. Then repeat on day two, etc.
* Limit the use of cell phones to emergency situations. Even in an emergency situation, drivers should safely pull off the roadway to make a call.
* Limit the number of passengers. GDL laws in many states dictate that new drivers are not allowed to have any passengers in their vehicles at all for several months, other than licensed adults.
* Avoid eating while driving.
* Do any multi-tasking outside the car.
* Pay full attention to the vehicles around you.
* Be fully rested and awake when driving. Drowsiness is a major cause of accidents.
* Be familiar with the route to school and the local neighborhood roads.
* ALWAYS wear safety belts. That goes for new drivers and experienced ones.
New drivers also need to be reminded that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal and with strict zero tolerance laws in place, the penalties are severe.
In the Washington metro area, WRAP (the Washington Regional Alcohol Program) has worked for 25 years to deliver sober driving messages to young drivers. WRAP sponsors teen education programs and provides information on how to help keep young drivers safe and has served as a model program for communities throughout the country.

GEICO Fights Insurance Fraud with Florida Task Force to Close Plantation Chiropractic Clinic

GEICO was part of an industry-wide task force in Florida that provided authorities with information used to sentence South Florida chiropractor Dr. Barry Silverstein to 34 months imprisonment. Silverstein was charged with conspiracy to commit heath care fraud by defrauding private insurance companies and was also fined $100,000. He surrendered his medical license and closed his chiropractic clinic in Plantation, Fla.
As part of his sentence, Silverstein was ordered to return $1.7 million to insurers that he defrauded. GEICO was awarded $208,000 of the total.
"This was a big service to all Florida residents," said George Rogers, GEICO's Lakeland regional vice president. "Everyone who worked on this case wants to see fraudulent claims operations closed down. We are proud to be part of the state-wide task force that uncovered this operation."
An FBI investigation showed that Silverstein was billing private insurers for services and supplies that were unnecessary or never provided to some patients.
Seth Ingall, vice president of GEICO's claims division, said, "GEICO worked with several state agencies, 15 other insurers and the NICB (National Insurance Crime Bureau) to bring this case to trial. We are very pleased about the court-ordered restitution and that insurers will have some funds restored.
"We are pursuing other professionals in Florida for the same reasons and are following leads on others running phony medical mills, billing for non-existent procedures, inflating medical fees and taking advantage of the public."

State Farm's edge? It's private

For a while now, I've been wondering why State Farm seems immune to the troubles plaguing Allstate. After all, the nation's two biggest property-casualty insurers have a lot in common. Both were founded in the Midwest early in the last century. Both sell auto and homeowners' insurance to middle-class Americans through thousands of agents around the country. Both were slow to embrace direct sales...
